HOW I GOT DRUNK AND SAVED THE WORLD

Cause the Apocalypse is a lot easier to swallow after twelve shots of tequila.

WHAT'S THE PLOT OF THIS DAMN THING?

Jack Lawson is a degenerate ex-superhero who gets paid by the government NOT to use his powers and embarrass the superhero community.

After finding out one of his many illegitimate children is destined to destroy the world, he embarks on an epic road trip to meet his kids for the first time, and stop whichever one is prophesied to bring about the Apocalypse.

ALRIGHT, GIMMIE A SYNOPSIS

Jack Lawson was a member of the greatest superhero team of all time…….

For about four months.

Instead of saving the world, he spent most of his time binge drinking, urinating in strange places, and using his newfound celebrity to court a good amount of questionable women.

Now, twenty years later, Jack lives off of government welfare. On his nightly bar crawl, he meets a mysterious woman who has the power to make men see the future during climax.

Despite her better judgement, they have sex, and Jack has a vision of the entire world being destroyed! As hell reigns down from the sky, Jack falls to the ground, burning to ash, and offers a plea to his unseen child to stop the destruction.

SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Jack tries to convince his former team, the Vindicators, that the vision is real, but they are convinced he was simply on another drinking bender. Furious at him for wasting their time, they take away his monthly “allowance” from the government.

Broke and alone in his quest to save the world, Jack finds help from Eric Bowman, his loyal (or unfortunate) sidekick, a 20 year old college kid with his parent’s credit card and a 1963 Lincoln Continental.

Together, they travel across the US, reconnecting with Jack’s old flames and meeting the children Jack long abandoned.

ALRIGHT. HOW THE HELL DOES THIS WORK NOW?

Jack meets each of his bastard children, who all have unique powers of their own. While he initially tries to spy on the kids and raid their parents’ liquor cabinets, Jack winds up reluctantly getting involved in their lives and helping them with their current troubles.

But it’s not going to be that easy. I mean, come on. What do you think, he’s just going to go around hugging people and singing “Joy to the World?”

Hell no.

Jack’s arch nemesis, Dr. MindControl (he couldn't think of a better name), is hot on Jack's trail. Dr. MC can't control the minds of people who are inebriated, therefore he's never been able to control Jack. That being said, he is able to control Jack’s children, which all leads up to an apocalyptic showdown in Reno, Nevada.

In the tradition of Bad Santa and Bad Teacher, we’ve now got Bad Superhero. So buckle up, cause it’s going to be one hell of a ride.

REVIEWS FROM HOLLYWOOD'S BLACKLIST

HOW I GOT DRUNK AND SAVED THE WORLD features an impressive, unabashedly fun concept that demonstrates the potential for some exciting longevity. Jack is a fabulously flawed and entertaining figure whose hedonism and self-destructive behavior run the gamut from hilarious to disturbing, and it is refreshing to encounter an author who has actually examined the implications of their speculative premise.

This pilot is often raucously funny, and whether it be Jack's absurd
irreverence, the incisive deconstruction of superhero tropes, or gags as simple as "lemonade," HOW I GOT DRUNK AND SAVED THE WORLD consistently demonstrates a promising comedic mind at work.

The pilot also boasts some compelling visual potential such as the apocalyptic spectacle, and the tonal dissonance between such operatic imagery and the manner in which it was produced further
speaks to this script's unique comedic sensibility.

HOW I GOT DRUNK AND SAVED THE WORLD possesses some exciting commercial prospects. There is absolutely an audience for a series of this nature (especially in a Marvel-saturated,
hero-exhausted culture), and it is not difficult to imagine the series faring particularly well within a streaming ecosystem.
