CAROL JOINS THE MAFIA

WHAT'S THE PLOT OF THIS DAMN THING?

The title pretty much says it all.

Carol, the self-proclaimed "whippersnapper from Wisconsin", is having a tough time. Her husband just left her, her son is being bullied at school, and Jan Lipschitz thought her sweet potato casserole was "okay at best."

When a group of mobsters... I mean, "legitimate businessmen," burn down Carol's office for the insurance money, Carol is left with no job, a stack of overdue bills, and very few options.

So she does what anyone in her situation would do.

She applies for a job in the mafia.

WHO ARE THESE MOBSTERS

Frank Manzi was born into the business.

Literally.

His father, Don Duccio Manzi, is the reigning mob boss, the head capo, the meatball on top of the plate of spaghetti... ok, that last one needed work.

Frank wants to move up in the organization, but his father is skeptical of his leadership skills. Especially because Frank's two closest friends and underlings are the epitome of the word screwup.

Sonny, an insecure gangster who longs to be a dentist, and Chicky, an oversized teddy bear with secrets of his own, aren't exactly the type of goons who strike fear in the hearts of the general populace.

Yet Frank is incredibly loyal to them. He vows he can turn them, and anyone else, into a "made man."

What he didn't count on, was Carol.

SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

After Carol inadvertently discovers a rat in the organization, Don Duccio finds himself in Carol's debt. He decides to give the unemployed efficiency expert a test drive in the organization.

While the other bosses are at first skeptical of the Don's decision, Carol uses her skills in office management, organization, and PowerPoint to bring the mob into the 21st century.

One by one, she wins all of them over, except Frank, who still thinks the mafia shouldn't include anyone who enjoys potato salad and buys her clothes at Mervyn's.

How far will Carol move up in the organization?

Will Frank ever become the boss?

Will anyone actually read the script?

Is anyone reading this right now?

Seriously, is anyone reading this or should I just quit and go a trade school? I hear air conditioning repair is a solid business.

REVIEWS FROM HOLLYWOOD'S BLACKLIST

The fish-out-of-water scenario presented here feels quite original as it takes two extremely well-known archetypes, the suburban mom and the mobster, and combines their two distinct worlds
in an entertainingly offbeat manner.

Carol is protagonist gold with her cheerful disposition and Ned Flanders-esque desire to help everyone around her,

The scenes at times possesses the same hilarious absurdity as classic THE SIMPSONS and modern BOB’S BURGERS’ episodes, meaning the series could easily find a home on a traditional broadcast network.

From Denise giving Carol advice from the bathroom stall to Sonny and Chicky messing up job after job, the vibrant characters represent the real reason to read this script.
